Who is Humayun Ahmed (হুমায়ূন আহমেদ)?

If you are a Bangladeshi you already know about Humayun Ahmed. But for all the other people or if you in case don’t know about him, i am writing a short bio on him.

He (হুমায়ূন আহমেদ) is a great novelist of Bangladesh. He was born on 13 November 1948 in Kutubpur, Netrokona. Not only is novelist also work on the other branches of literature like, Short Story, Songs, Play and more. He also wrote and directed some well known films in Bangladesh. 

He Ahmed wrote more than 200 books in his career. His first novel was published in 1972 and it was, Nondito Noroke while he was a university student.

He studied in University of Dhaka and graduated from the department of Chemistry and then he went to the USA to obtain his Phd. After coming back to Bangladesh he devoted himself to writing and creating literary works.

In personal life Humayun Ahmed first married Gultekin Khan in 1973. From Gultekin he had three daughters, Nova Ahmed, Sheila Ahmed, Bipasha Ahmed and one son, Nuhash Humayun. Then he was married to Meher Afroz Shaon in 2004. Shaon had two sons with Humayun Ahmed, Nishad Humayun and Ninith Humayun.

This Fiction is about a urban lower middle class family who deals with their life with lots of sufferings. Here is a strong mother character portrait by the author who often misbehaves with her children. Actually She was teaching her children about the difficult scenario of life where they may need to live without love and affection or any parental care.

  • Deyal (দেয়াল)

Deyal is a political history written based on the socio economic situation and present scenario of 1971. You will find some ongoing situations and very discussed phenomena of Bangladesh’s history in this book. The author tries to portray the socio economic and political situation and their real face in this book. It is one of the masterpieces by Humayun Ahmed.

  • Badshah Namdar (বাদশাহ নামদার)

On the other hand Toru, daughter of this family falls in love with a talented boy but suddenly his bad and dangerous past comes out.

  • Asmanira Tin Bon (আসমানীরা তিন বোন)

This fiction is based on neglected women of our society. There are three sisters named Asmani, Jamdani, and Poysha. Their father Jomir Ali is a lazy beggar. One day their mother Asia left them with their father and she went somewhere else. 

One day Jomir Ali gets news that Asia travels to India and then he also travels to India to find his wife back. But unfortunately Jomir Ali was caught by the Indian police. And the three sisters remain all alone in this terrible society. 

  • Lilaboti (লীলাবতী)

Siddikur Rahman is a landlord. He is a very powerful and rich person. His 2nd wife is gone mad now. His family became old and his family life now became terrible. And at that time Lila comes to his life. Lila was his daughter from first wife. 

Lila had strong negative feelings about her father. She thought his father is the most Cruel person in the world. And she had evil feelings for her father. In the forwarding phases in the story we see that Siddikur’s life become more terrible his only son suicide and he goes to jail. But What happens in the end?

Lilaboti is another masterpiece of Humayun Ahmed.

  • Choitrer Ditio Dibosh (চৈত্রের দ্বিতীয় দিবস)

  • Chader Aloy Koyekjon Jubok (চাঁদের আলোয় কয়েকজন যুবক)

On an ordinary night some of the friends meet each other but not for hangout but for discussing and sharing the life struggle and depression. They were casually walking on the street and suddenly they met with a Gentleman named Mirza. Mirza becomes curious about the boys and starts following them. Then many things start happening with them on that night.

  • Deyal (দেয়াল)

Here I will again suggest Deyal for the mature readers. Deyal is such an informative and good book. It is one of the great creations of the Author. 

This is a political history written based on the socio economic situation and present scenario of 1971. I already mentioned it in the upper section. It’s really a must read among the Humayun Ahmed books.

  • Aguner Porosh Moni (আগুনের পরশমণি)

The story is based on the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971. It was the time when the Pakistan Army was capturing Dhaka. And Mukti Bahini tried to defend them. In this situation a young man named Alom came to Motin’s house as a guest. He actually came here to make a plan to destroy the Pakistan Army from Dhaka. 

Motin has two daughters, one name is Ratri and another one name is Opla. 

  • Bela Obela (বেলা অবেলা)

Bela Obela is not actually a fiction, you may consider it as a non fiction. Bela Obela is a group of 10 selective autobiographies of Humayun Ahmed written by himself. Mr. Ahmed writes about himself in different books. Like Ballpoint, Amr Choto bela, Hotel Graver inn and many more. This Book is a plenary of all his autobiographies.
