Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a perfect book for the age group 6 to 14. Everyone in this age group will love this book and can learn interesting life lessons. It is a must-read book for every child in his or her child age.

The story is about a poor boy named Charlie Bucket. He lives with his family in a small house. He loves chocolate but can rarely afford it. One day, Willy Wonka, the owner of a magical chocolate factory, announces a contest. He hides five Golden Tickets in chocolate bars, and the winners will get a tour of his factory. 

Charlie is lucky to find a Golden Ticket! He visits the factory with four other children. Inside the factory, they see amazing things like a chocolate river, edible candy rooms, and Oompa Loompas (Wonka’s small workers). However, one by one, the naughty children are removed from the tour because of their bad behaviour. 

In the end, only Charlie remains. Because of his kind heart and honesty, Wonka gives him the entire chocolate factory as a reward. Charlie and his family are overjoyed, and they move into the factory to start a new, happy life. And this story teaches us that goodness, patience, and kindness always win in the end.

The BFG

The BFG is another masterpiece of Roald Dahl and an epic classic fantasy book. This book is also a must-read children’s classic book, so we picked this in our classic children’s books list.

The BFG is a story about a young girl named Sophie who meets a Big Friendly Giant (BFG). Unlike other giants, this giant is kind and he collects dreams to give to children. Sophie and the BFG become friends, but soon, she learns about the dangerous giants who eat humans. 

Following the story, together, they come up with a plan to stop the bad giants by asking the Queen of England for help. With teamwork and bravery, they succeed in capturing the giants and keeping people safe.

The main theme of the book is friendship & courage and it teaches that kindness and bravery can help overcome any challenge.

Little House on the Prairie

This is a very simple book where Laura Ingalls Wilder writes about her childhood memories when her family moved to Kansas to find better land and a better life.

In the new land, they build a home, grow food, and adjust to life on the prairie. They meet both friendly and unfriendly Native Americans, experience sickness and dangers, and rely on their strong family bond to get through hardships. But In the end, they had to leave their home due to government laws and move once again.

The book is a classic tale of adventure, survival, and family love on the American frontier.

Charlotte’s Web

Charlotte’s Web is one of the famous classic children’s novels and it is also famous as one of the best classic children’s picture books because of its amazing illustration​ with storytelling. 

The story is about a little pig named Wilbur and his friendship with a kind spider named Charlotte. Wilbur is born as the smallest pig in his litter, and a girl named Fern saves him from being killed. She raises him for a while, but later, he is sent to live on a farm.

On the farm, Wilbur feels lonely until he meets a wise and caring baby spider named Charlotte. They become a good friend. But one day, the farmer plans to kill Wilbur for food, and then Charlotte comes up with a plan to save him. She weaves words like “Some Pig” and “Terrific” into her web to make Wilbur look special. People are amazed, and Wilbur becomes famous. Because of Charlotte’s efforts, the farmer decides to let Wilbur live.

This heartwarming story teaches us about love, loyalty, and the power of friendship.

The Secret Garden

The Secret Garden is one of the best classic children’s novels written by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The story is about a lonely and spoiled girl named Mary Lennox. She grows up in India but is sent to live with her uncle in England after her parents die. 

At first, Mary is rude and unhappy, but she slowly changes when she discovers a hidden, locked garden on the estate. With the help of a kind boy named Dickon and her sickly cousin Colin, Mary brings the garden back to life. As the garden blooms, Colin also grows stronger, and both children become happier and healthier.

This classic tale teaches us that kindness and care can bring positive changes in life.

Gulliver’s Travels

Gulliver’s Travels is one of the all-time famous cult classic books. Here, the main character – Gulliver, accidentally experiences four journeys to different strange lands, where he meets unusual people and creatures.

In his first journey, Gulliver arrives in Lilliput, a land where tiny people live. They are only six inches tall. They fight over silly things. At first, they see Gulliver as a giant and fear him, but later, they use him for their needs. Next, Gulliver visits Brobdingnag, a land of giants. Here, he is the tiny one, and the giants see him as weak and foolish. Their king listens to Gulliver’s stories about Europe and laughs at how humans fight wars and treat people unfairly. This makes Gulliver realize that his society has many problems.

In his third journey, Gulliver travels to Laputa, a floating island where people love science and math but do not care about real life. He also visits other strange lands, such as one where people try to live forever but are unhappy. Finally, Gulliver arrives in a land ruled by the Houyhnhnms, wise and gentle horses. They live peacefully and do not lie or fight. In contrast, the Yahoos, who look like humans, are dirty, wild, and foolish. The Houyhnhnms believe all humans are like Yahoos, and Gulliver starts to agree. 

When he returns home, he feels disgusted by people and prefers the company of horses. The stories teach us to look at our world more critically and think about our actions and beliefs.

The Little Prince

The story is about a young prince who travels from planet to planet to meet different people and learn life lessons. The story is told by a pilot who crashes his plane in the desert and meets the Little Prince.

The Little Prince comes from a small planet where he takes care of a rose. He leaves his planet to explore the universe and visits several others. On each planet, he meets adults who are only focused on things like wealth, power, or numbers, but they don’t understand the important things in life, like love and friendship.

In the end, the Little Prince returns to his planet, leaving the pilot with a deep understanding of life’s true values. The story reminds us to hold on to our childlike wonder and never forget what really matters in our lives.

The Worst Witch

The story is about a young girl named Mildred Hubble, who attends Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches. Mildred is not a typical witch. She is clumsy, makes mistakes, and often gets into trouble. And so she earned her the nickname “the worst witch” at school.

The story follows Mildred’s struggles to fit in at the academy, where she faces challenges like magical lessons gone wrong and being bullied by her classmates. Despite her mistakes, Mildred is kind and determined to prove that she can be a good witch.

The Jungle Book

The Jungle Book is another famous children’s classic book. It is a collection of stories written by Rudyard Kipling about a young boy named Mowgli. Mowgli is raised by wolves in the jungle.

In the jungle, Mowgli meets many animals, including Baloo the bear, Bagheera the panther, and Shere Khan the tiger. Baloo and Bagheera become Mowgli’s friends and protect him from Shere Khan, who wants to harm him. Mowgli learns the laws of the jungle and how to survive.

But as Mowgli grows older, he faces challenges and learns more about the human world. At a certain moment, he has to decide whether to stay in the jungle with his animal friends or return to the human world.

The Borrowers

The Borrowers by Mary Norton is a story about tiny people who live secretly in the walls and floors of a house. These tiny people, called Borrowers, survive by borrowing things they need from humans, like sugar cubes, buttons, and thread. They always hide themselves from the humans.

But one day, Arrietty, the main character, is seen by a young boy named Jim. Instead of being scared, Jim becomes a friend of her and promises to keep her secret. However, as the Borrowers’ lives become more difficult, Arrietty and her family are forced to move.

The book shows how the Borrowers’ world is much different from the humans and how they rely on being clever and careful to survive.
